Brother HL-L2360DW reset drum counter and reset toner low alert

Reset Drum Counter

The average drum unit life should be about 15,000 pages. If your printer is showing the “Replace Drum” message, here’s how to resolve it. Whether you replace the drum or not (If you think it doesn’t need replacing yet), you will need to reset the drum counter regardless. For the Brother HL-H2360DW, here is how you do it (this may also work on the HL2320D HL2310D and HL2380DW):

  • Open the front cover.
  • Press and hold the “OK” button for about 2-3 seconds until the display shows “Drum Unit”.
  • Press the “OK” button.
  • The display will show “▲reset ▼exit”. Press the up arrow ▲ button to reset the counter.
  • The display will show “Accepted”.
  • Close the front cover.

Done.

Reset Toner Low Alert

The type of toner cartridge you use determines how many pages it should print clearly, for example, a TN660 cartridge should print about 2,600 pages at 5% coverage, a TN630 should print about 1,200 pages, although your mileage may vary depending what you are printing. At some point you’ll get the “Toner Low” message and no more pages will print. Often there is still a decent amount of toner left in the cartridge, and removing the cartridge and giving it a gentle side to side shake about 6 times will redistribute the toner inside, and often that will fix the problem, at least for a while.

If that doesn’t work, but you believe there is still plenty of toner remaining, you can reset the Toner Low alert. This is how you do it on the Brother HL-L2360DW (this may also work on the HL2320D HL2310D and HL2380DW):

  • Open the front cover.
  • Turn the printer off by holding down the power button until the display shows “Shutting Down”.
  • Once the printer has shut down, press and hold the big green Go button. While still keeping the Go button held down, press the power button for a moment to restart the printer.
  • Keep holding down the Go button for about 5 seconds or so, and you’ll see some black squares appear on the display. When you see that, release the Go button.
  • At this point, the display should show “Users Mode”.
  • Press the Go button 9 times. You’ll see the WiFi light flash each time you press the Go button. Once you finish the 9 presses, wait a moment and the WiFi light should flash once more.
  • Now press the Go button 5 more times (again the WiFi light will flash each time you press Go). The display should still show “Users Mode” at this point.
  • Now close the front cover. The display should show “Please Wait” while it cycles through the boot process.
  • The display should then show “Ready”.

Done.

Both the above methods were working as of May 2024.
